Job Description
Position: Community Network Activator
Location: Downtown Yellowknife Office (this is not a remote work position). .
Reporting: This position reports to and takes direction from the Executive Director
Wage: $30 per hour to start, review after 3 months.
Preference given Indigenous Candidates

The Territorial Agrifood Association (TAA) is a non-profit organization focussed on the development of the NWT commercial food sector. We work with farmers, producers, commercial growers and small-scale food processors as well as restaurants, chefs, community governments, Indigenous groups and academics. Our focus is on increasing food produced in the NWT, improving food sovereignty and decreasing food insecurity.
The TAA is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Community Network Activator to join our small team in a support role to work on the Sustainable Futures for Canadians (SF4C) project - a collaborative project focused on innovation, education and opportunity in agrifood for remote, rural and Indigenous communities. You will work with the TAA team as well as Indigenous leaders, community advisors, researchers and academics from across Canada. This position will also participate in other TAA programming as part of our service delivery/projects team.
This is an on-site and in-person role, in our Yellowknife, NT office involving a balance of computer-based work and community events. You will also support our onsite Agrifood Discovery Centre with tours and events. In this role, the Community Network Activator will work alongside the Executive Director and the TAA team to support TAA activities. The work will involve communications, social media and promotion, event management, developing project and event planning, and supporting community agrifood projects.
Responsibilities of the Community Network Activator will include:
Program support:
deliver SF4Cprogramming in the NWT as part of the implementation team
Support and coordinate actions including advocacy and knowledge mobilization
Help design and deliver program events.
Supporting and mentoring:
Support community advisors and advisory groups
Facilitate group conversations and processes that are in line with participatory community-led decision-making
Support community partners skills through mentorship, coaching, guidance, encouragement and championing
Participate in social media and promotion strategies
Community-building – engage with community members to help gather insights and feedback about offerings to support program improvement
Administrative and Other Responsibilities:
Provide administrative support to the SF4C team such as booking meetings and
Work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, giving capacity to be all hands on deck at times.
You bring these characteristics and capabilities:
Knowledge of/experience in, remote, rural and./or Indigenous communities (anywhere in Canada)
A variety of lived experiences and capacity to work alongside community members
Ability to prioritize tasks and workflow into manageable steps
Foundational knowledge/interest in remote, rural and indigenous agrifood systems
Social media and computer skills
Drivers’ License (preferred not required)
Compensation and Details:
Exact work schedule to be determined based on needs of the project and individual’s availability – generally Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm but some evening and weekend work may be required.
This is a full-time role based on 37.5 hours/week.
Compensation is $30-hour to start
3 month probation
