The TAA operates a series of related ventures along the Agrifood Value Chain in the NWT as part of our mission to support food entrepreneurship and grow the NWT commercial food sector.
Taste the North is a retail social enterprise located at 5004 50th Avenue in downtown Yellowknife.
The store features only food and food related products grown, harvested, processed or made in the NWT. The store is open Monday to Saturday and most holidays 9:30am-5:30pm..
Store vendors are eligible for annual financial credits to improve their product through branding or food science.
The store receives no government funding. Any revenues over expenses supports the non profit activities of the TAA.

NWT Agrifood & You is a new NWT food sector Info and Discovery Centre located at 5004 50th Avenue in downtown Yellowknife.
Our goal is to be a one stop shop for those looking to start a farm or food business in the NWT as well as an educational hub for those wishing to learn more about our amazing NWT taste of place. School visits are welcome. Drop by or set an appointment for advice and resources on agriculture in the NWT.

Did you know that the TAA operates as an enterprising non-profit? This means we don't rely on grants—we actively generate our own revenue to stay resilient and keep serving our community.
Here is a look behind the scenes at how our funding actually works:

The Funding Gap: Many people assume that project grants cover everything. In reality, project funding does not cover staff salaries or overhead costs. It only pays for the specific project itself.

Powering Our Operations: Because there is no other source of core funding, we have to be enterprising. Every dollar of revenue over expenses that we generate goes directly toward paying our dedicated staff and keeping our operational lights on.

Investing in the Community: Beyond overhead, our revenue allows us to fund critical initiatives that grants won't cover, including:

The First Break Program: Helping those who are brand new to or re-entering the workforce find their footing.

Small Scale Processor Grants: Providing $500 grants to help local small-scale food processors with food science and branding support.

Farmer & Grower Advocacy: Funding vital support, advocacy, and hands-on resource development, including demonstration and model farming.
