Title: Growers Liaison
Duration: full time
Hours: Monday- Friday 8:30-4:30pm
Position Start Date: immediately
Location: Yellowknife (some community travel required)
Salary: $30hr to start
Purpose: The Territorial Agrifood Association (TAA) is a community-based agrifood sector organization serving the NWT and based in Yellowknife. The Growers Liaison position is funded through the Future Harvest Partnership and will work to carry out the following activities:
Connect individual growers, food producers’ communities and organizations throughout the Northwest Territories on food related initiatives
Champion the TAA Farmer Led Research (FLR) initiative
Collaborate with partners on related FLR initiatives
Connect with other FLR groups in Canada to learn and share information
Build relationships and develop positive connections with growers and food producers throughout the NWT
Provide assistance (occasionally hands on) to growers and producers in relation to agrifood, food systems and growing initiatives throughout the NWT
Work closely with growers and producers throughout the NWT to connect them with appropriate programs and resources
Coordinate the TAA soil testing program
Knowledge sharing and mobilization, special projects, and travel
Travel to meet with growers and producers throughout the NWT on behalf of the TAA and FHP
Attend agrifood sector gatherings in the NWT to display and distribute informational and promotional materials
Help growers and producers throughout the NWT who are preparing for, partnering with and/or undertaking food sector research
Maintain the TAA community garden plot including conducting minor research trials
Plant and maintain demo growing units in the TAA office
Coordinate TAA and FHP summer students working on growing projects
Communications and training
Share grower and producer perspectives to inform programming and projects
Participate in regular meetings with the Executive Director to report on activities .
Provide monthly written reports to the Executive Director with updates and evaluations of ongoing activities
Organize and lead video conferencing with growers and producers as needed/directed
Support event and activity promotion by carrying out a variety of activities including creating posters, ads and Facebook posts in collaboration with the TAA communications team; updating event information on the shared calendar; taking photographs during events; and uploading photos to the TAA share drive
Take notes at meetings and file appropriately
Support and back up other TAA staff
Other duties as required
Qualifications
**Applicants do not have to have all the following qualifications before applying, but they should be interested in developing these skills as well as learning about and supporting community based and commercial food systems in the NWT.
People person
Food growing/northern food growing experience or knowledge an asset
Knowledge of commercial food systems and the agrifood value chain
Experience or interest in building and managing networks of people and organizations
Interest in applied research
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a diverse team
Solution-oriented
Excellent project organization, planning, and implementation skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to write for different audiences
Experience with communication systems such as email, Facebook, and website management
Skilled in Microsoft Word
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
Ability to meet deadlines
